A tree ring does two things at once: it protects the root system from mower damage and string trimmers, and it creates a clean mulch boundary that keeps your landscape looking intentional. Without a ring, mulch drifts, grass creeps in, and the base of the tree becomes the messiest spot in the yard. With a concrete ring, it becomes one of the sharpest.
We custom-size every tree ring to fit the trunk and canopy. Young trees get smaller rings with room to grow. Mature trees with wide root flares get rings sized to clear the base without sitting on top of roots. There's no standard diameter — we measure on-site and install to fit. Circles, ovals, and free-form shapes are all on the table, depending on your yard layout and aesthetic.
Because we extrude the concrete on-site, tree rings are installed as one continuous piece with no seams or joints. This matters for durability — segmented rings shift apart over time as the ground settles, creating gaps where mulch escapes and weeds sneak in. A continuous ring stays locked in position. We install the border at grade level or slightly raised, depending on whether you're containing mulch or creating a visual accent.
If you have multiple trees, we can install all of them in a single visit. Most multi-tree jobs are still done in one morning. We match the color and style across all rings so they look like part of a unified landscape plan — not afterthoughts added one at a time. No. Our rings are surface-installed with a shallow 3–4 inch footing — we're not digging into the root zone. We also size the ring to clear the root flare, so the concrete doesn't press against the trunk or surface roots. Arborists actually recommend defined borders around trees to prevent mower and trimmer damage to bark.
We install tree rings as small as 3 feet in diameter (for young ornamental trees) up to 10+ feet for large shade trees. The size is based on your tree's root flare and canopy, plus how much mulch area you want inside the ring. We measure on-site and recommend a diameter on install day.
Yes, and it's actually more cost-effective. Setup and mobilization is the same whether we install one ring or six. We typically handle 3–6 tree rings in a single morning, all in matching colors and styles. If your yard has a row of trees or scattered specimens, we'll layout all of them during the design walkthrough on install day.
